While most of the analysts are covering Microsoft-Yahoo! saga, rumours are ripe that either IBM or Nvidia might try to buy AMD. Personally i would be disappointed if any one of the above happens. If MSFT has its way with Yahoo! then instead of the current Google monopoly, we might end up with a duopoly with MSFT-YAHOO and GOOG which is equally bad. I think both Microsoft and Yahoo have enough R&D budget and talent to take on Google; the more the number of players the better it is for the industry and the job market
Similarly, even though AMD’s current market cap of less than 4 billion dollars (3.76 billion to be exact) is very attractive for a buyout, AMD looks to be better on its own. IBM sold their PC business to Lenovo to leave the x86 market space. Nvidia seems to be gaining market share due to the blunders committed by AMD-ATI and not due to any earth shattering innovations from their side. What do you think?
Who is going to acquire AMD?

What am i going to blog?
3 02 2008Hi there! I am a software professional working in a semiconductor company. Apart from the time i spend explaining my work to others, i write kernel mode software for my day to day bread & butter. My various attempts in explanations have been largely unsuccessful to the extent that i have been bandied as a “Bus Driver” “Conductor” by my better half who considers my work equivalent to greek n latin
I am planning to use this blog as my “time-out” from my hectic professional life. I hope i have enough thoughts on all my passions including Tamil poems & literature.
